SONY EXPANDS FAMILY OF HIGH-DEFINITION VIDEOCONFERENCING SOLUTIONS AT INFOCOMM 2012

Full Range of Systems with New Enhancements Deliver High Performance, High Quality, Flexible and Affordable Visual Communications

LAS VEGAS, (InfoComm Booth #C7008) June 13, 2012 - (Virtual Press Office) - Sony’s full range of videoconferencing solutions is on display at InfoComm 2012. Sony will highlight its three high-definition systems – models PCS-XG80, PCS-XG55 and the all-in-one desktop PCS-XL55 -- as well as new servers that add multi-connection as well as recording and streaming capabilities.

The Sony systems are designed to offer high image quality; realistic and natural video reproduction; and the flexibility, convenience and affordability made easily available by visual communications. Sony’s videoconferencing solutions continue to be widely used in a diverse array of applications, from corporate, government and finance to education, medical, broadcast and legal.

“These technologies can deliver high-quality video and audio to any organization looking for cost-effective, proven communication technologies,” said Anne Bondulich, marketing manager for videoconferencing systems at Sony Electronics. “In addition to outstanding performance, they allow professionals to interact ‘face-to-face,’ without incurring the financial, environmental and personnel costs of business travel, while still benefitting from an affordable and flexible high-quality user experience.”

The PCS-XG80 system can deliver up to 1080P resolution and 1080i at 60 frames per second to deliver superb and smooth live video quality.

Its backward-compatibility gives users the option of connecting with HD video quality through the growing number of affordable high-bandwidth connections or through standard-definition legacy systems over IP and/or ISDN. This new system also features BrightFaceTM imaging technology, Interactive Annotation, and RF Remote functionality.

Users can seamlessly share PC data in HD quality at 30 frames per second. Dual stream functionality lets users send two separate parallel streams of live HD information. Both live camera view and animated PowerPoint data, for example, can be displayed in HD on two different screens or projectors at a remote site.

The PCS-XG55 system can also display 1080i and up to 60 fps, and also provides backward-compatibility with current models in Sony’s videoconferencing line.

The system’s high-frame rate and high-resolution codec (1280x720 60fps/30fps) includes a newly developed real-time adaptive contrast optimization technology that uses brightness information in each pixel and optimizes the contrast in an image’s bright and dark areas separately. This is a key factor in creating clear pictures and optimal color tone for a range of room environments, including low-light and back-lit situations.

The system also offers more effective collaboration tools, with H.239 dual stream capability. As a result, both video and presentation data can be transferred smoothly at 30 fps, and users can send H.264 1080i/30p and H.239 SXGA/30 fps streams simultaneously. Both live camera view and animated PowerPoint data, for example, can be displayed in HD on two different screens or projectors at a remote site.

Other features include easier operation with “one-touch dialing” from the RF remote commander, dual- and single-monitor modes and an intuitive GUI with a translucent cascading menu architecture. In addition, Intelligent QoS™ control greatly reduces video artifacts caused by packet loss regardless of transmission distance by applying three methods adaptively in accordance with network conditions: adaptive FEC (forward error correction); real-time ARQ (automatic repeat reQuest); and ARC (adaptive rate control).

The desktop all-in-one PCS-XL55 HD system offers 720P and 1080i image resolution, and shares many of the features of its PCS-XG80 and PCS-XG55 counterparts.

All Sony videoconferencing solutions are available in the United States through Stampede, Sony Electronics’ distributor for its IPELA line of IP-based videoconferencing systems and accessories. For more information, visit http://www.stampede-us.com.
