Gefen Shows the New Gefen A/V Automation System for Residential and Commercial Applications
Indianapolis, IN Booth 3725
- (Virtual Press Office
) – Gefen is pleased to announce its GAVA (Gefen A/V Automation) system is now configured for commercial environments. At CEDIA, Gefen is demonstrating how GAVA can be used for both residential and commercial venues such as bars/restaurants, conference rooms and retail spaces.
“GAVA offers the most intuitive system setups available today,” said Orrin Charm, Gefen’s automation project manager. “By using templates and a driver library to identify and configure equipment, we are able to set up
a multi-room environment in a matter of minutes. Yet it is a full two-way multi-room, multi-user control system, not just another ‘smart’ remote.”
For both resellers and integrators, GAVA may be particularly appealing because it requires no extensive training or programming skills to install or operate. It is designed for a simple, point and click method of setup. At CEDIA, Gefen will be hosting a Manufacturer’s Product Training course on Friday, September 7 from 4:30 to 6pm. This will provide an overview of functionality and Charm will demonstrate the several different templates available for installation. Home theater, multi-room and commercial venues will all be installed during the hour and a half session (Course code: MPT1109) good for .75 credits.
GAVA uses IP connectivity to control all devices in the system including AV receivers, matrix switchers, Blu-ray players, Apple TV, iTunes, set-top boxes and one or more displays. It has the added ability to automate and control lights and window shades through trigger outputs. It allows control of all connected devices through an HTML5 interface that works with all smart phones and tablets. It is optimized for iPad, iPod, iPhone, Android and most Web browsers as the control interface. If some devices are not IP-ready, GAVA can be combined with Gefen’s PACS (Professional Automation Control System) and/or Mini PACS. These bridge devices connect RS-232, IR and triggers to the GAVA system via IP. Eight IR emitter ports, three RS-232 ports, 10 trigger outputs and an Ethernet 10/100 BaseT connection are included on the PACS. Mini PACS has three IR ports, one RS-232 port, two relay contacts plus the Ethernet port.
Once configured, GAVA retains a unique IP address that enables any authorized smart phone, tablet or any device with wi-fi or Ethernet capability access to the system. No special licenses are required for any number of user interface devices - all of the software and licenses are included in the box. Although designed to run on a network, it does not require Internet access for configuration or use, but it can be connected to the Internet for firmware and library updates or for remote technical support.
