New JGR OA5 Optical Programmable Attenuators

Ottawa, Ontario, September 17, 2012 – JGR Optics Inc. announced today the availability of the new OA5 Optical Programmable Attenuators.  The OA5 attenuation range from 50 to 100 dB and resolution of ± 0.01 dBm allows for precise power control of output power required when performing BER tests or channel equalization in WDM systems.

The OA5 Optical Programmable Attenuator is available in 5 models for single-mode and multimode fibers.  The standard models will cover the 1200 nm to 1700 nm wavelength range and accept signals of up to +23 dBm. Each model is available in single-mode and multimode configurations and two high power models are also available for applications requiring up to +37 dBm. Finally, a Flexcore model covering the wavelength range of 900 nm to 1100 nm is also available.

All OA5 attenuators can be controlled locally using the front panel keypad or remotely via GPIB, RS-232 or USB.

"Optical attenuators remain key instruments in every research lab and on any production floor.  Today's attenuators however, need to be faster, more reliable and more economical than their predecessors. The OA5 is the answer to all those requirements with its high-end specifications," said Pierre Leonard, President and CEO of JGR Optics.

The OA5 Optical Attenuators will be demonstrated along with other JGR Optics instruments at ECOC in Amsterdam, September 17 to 19 (Booth # 670).
