ro*co films bringing new collection of award-winning docs to MIPCOM

October 6, 2012 – San Francisco, CA – (Virtual Press Office) -- Annie Roney, Founder and Managing Director of ro*co films, is coming to MIPCOM to launch ro*co's new collection of award-winning, story-driven documentaries.

MIPCOM is a key part of ro*co's strategy to connect with buyers who have the power to bring the most compelling and entertaining documentaries of our day to audiences around the world. "ro*co has committed to having a presence at the MIP markets every year because it's our opportunity to sit down face to face with our buyers and make that all-important passionate pitch for our documentaries."

Ro*co has recently wrapped up a deal with Nathalie Windhorst, VPRO in the Netherlands, for four of our documentaries released at MIPTV in the Spring, THE LAW IN THESE PARTS, KUMARE, GIVE UP TOMORROW and HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE.  According to Windhorst "In the huge world of documentaries, with so many more films available than slots, it's convenient to have a guide who helps you find the cherries.  For me ro*co is such a guide.  Their taste is excellent, and they have a good eye for promising talent. And even more important, they are a pleasure to work with!"

New Documentaries Launched at MIPCOM 2012

You've Been Trumped In this David and Goliath story for the 21st century, a group of proud Scottish homeowners take on celebrity tycoon Donald Trump and his plan to develop one of Britain's very last stretches of wilderness into a golf course. Funny, inspiring and heartbreaking in turns, the story is an environmental parable for our celebrity driven times.

16 Acres  Sacred Ground. Prime Real Estate. Battle Royale. 16 ACRES is the story of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center after 9/11. And as with all great urban projects, from the Pyramids to Rome's Coliseum to Rockefeller Center, a small group of powerful people will dictate the outcome.

The World Before Her Moving between two extremes—the intimate verité drama of the Miss India pageant's rigorous beauty "bootcamp" and the intense regime of a militant Hindu fundamentalist camp for young girls—The World Before Her delivers a provocative portrait of India and its current cultural conflicts during a key transitional era in the country's modern history.

Charles Bradley:  Soul of America charts the incredible late-in-life rise of 62 year-old aspiring soul singer Charles Bradley, whose debut album rocketed him from a hard life in the New York City projects to Rolling Stone magazine's top 50 albums of 2011.

We Are Legion:  The Story of the Hacktivists takes us inside the world of Anonymous, the radical "hacktivist" collective that has redefined civil disobedience for the digital age. Around the world, governments and corporations are taking notice as this loosely organized underground group brings down websites and interrupts commerce.     Could this be the beginning of a new and powerful voice for democratic ideals or another rogue player to beware?  (Photo Still included)

Paul Williams:  Still Alive The most famous person you've never heard of, legendary songwriter/actor Paul Williams topped the charts in the early seventies, penning mega-hits for a who's who list of big-name performers, including Barbara Streisand and David Bowie. The doc is a cheeky, warts-and-all account of fame and misfortune, abuse and recovery, and the funny and often deeply fraught relationship between filmmaker and his reluctant subject.
